A big win for Chien-Ming Wang (王建民) 1:0 vs Detroit

By CNN

"I just try to think about the next hitter, slow myself down," Wang said"I just keep the ball down."

Update:
Wang is still not a familar name to Yank's fans....

Is Wang a long-term option?

Is Wang for real?

王建民,「真的有料」嗎?
.....
After striking out Dmitri Young , Wang snared a chopper by Chris Shelton and threw a strike to second to start an inning-ending double play. "He threw me a slider and I hit the ball hard," Shelton said. "He made a great play to come up with the ball. There's nothing I could do about it."

Shelton, who entered the game hitting .381 (8-for-21) on Detroit's five-game homestand, singled in his first two at-bats before the sixth.

He doesn't look like any young pitcher Joe Torre has seen as the Yankee manager, Torre said, and team executives are impressed enough to feel reluctant to include Wang in a trade.............

Without his finest stuff and beset by mechanical problems, Wang was brilliant and has turned into perhaps the Yankees' most reliable starter...............

Wang used his sinker to get double plays in the third and sixth and though the Tigers repeatedly hit balls hard, they were often right at Yankee fielders...........

Torre and Flaherty both said Wang was slightly out of whack. Flaherty called him "a mess mechanically." Wang's front shoulder was flying open, a common pitching malady, and he was rushing his delivery, Flaherty said. That's why two fastballs ran in to hit Placido Polanco and another plunked Rodriguez..........

"But he was able to make adjustments on the fly that you never see a young pitcher do," Flaherty said. "You see a young guy and mechanically he's not right, usually it ends up being a long day................

"But whenever he needs a double play ball, you feel you're only one pitch away to get out of the inning. His two-seamer is such a good pitch, you always feel like he's going to throw one and get a ground ball and get out of the inning. Maybe more than any guy on our staff, he has that ability.".............

"It's really unusual to have anybody that young be that consistent with his starts," Torre said. "He's gotten in trouble and gotten out of a lot of trouble and that's very impressive to me. That's one thing that really punctuates it, how he pitches with men on base, especially in a tight game like today where there was no breathing room."

Joe Torre isn’t used to putting much trust in a rookie starter.

Chien-Ming Wang has changed that.

“I can’t think of any other pitcher with that kind of poise with that little experience,” Torre said. “He doesn’t surprise me any more. When we write his name down, we know we don’t have to worry about him.”

The victory was New York’s first in 28 tries this season when scoring three runs or fewer. The Yankees had not won a regular-season game when scoring three or fewer since a 3-2 victory over Toronto in the final game of the 2004 season.

“It’s been a while since we’ve been able to do this,” Torre said. “That’s significant, because that is how we play — good pitching and keep the scores low.”

Starting in place of the injured Carl Pavano, Wang (5-3) walked one, hit three batters and struck out two. It was the first time the rookie did not allow a run in a start.

“Even when he doesn’t have his good stuff, he has the ability to get out of an inning,” Yankees catcher John Flaherty said.
